Ricky Gervais’ movie ‘The Invention Of Lying’ a Big Flop at U.S. box office

Ricky Gervais should think 100 times before making another movie, he is quite unlucky at the Box Office. I have not seen the movie ‘The Invention Of Lying’, I am writing this post in support of US box Office results.
The Invention Of Lying makes just only $7million (£4.4million) at the U.S. box office in its opening weekend. This should be really very disappointing start.
That’s a modest turnover compared to the likes of Woody Harrelson’s horror comedy Zombieland, which made its debut at No.1 and took $24.7million (£15.6million).
Even the double-feature reissue of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3-D versions did better, charting at No.3 with $12.5million (£7.9million).
Ricky, however, had to settle for fifth place, despite a heavy promotional campaign across the country.
The £11million flick, which he co-produced and co-directed with Matthew Robinson, also sees him play the lead role of a ‘chubby loser’ who is the only person in the world able to tell a lie.
It comes as a double blow to the actor, whose 2008 Hollywood movie Ghost Town was also a box office bomb.
Here is how a fake story was made on the achievements of his movie, He writes on this Blog that his movie had charted at No. 4 in the U.S which was indeed not true.
He wrote: ‘We went into the UK box office chart at number 2, just a few quid behind FAME. I’d have gotten away with it, if it wasn’t for them meddlin’ kids.
‘The same thing happened with Ghost Town. High School b****y Musical.
‘Number 4 in the U.S. The big boys predictably took the lion’s share.’
He added: ‘So, not bad at all. The money people are happy which means I’ll get to do it at least one more time.
‘I’ve started writing it already. It’s called ‘Let’s do the show right here in this inner-city school.’
In a recent interview, Gervais admitted that The Invention Of Lying, which also stars Hollywood actress Jennifer Garner, would make or break him in Tinseltown.
‘This is the real test,’ he said. ‘If this tanks, I will only ever be the guy who did The Office,’ he said.
