Canseco On Mitchell’s Major League Steroid List - What A Farce!

The George Mitchell Report on steroid use in Major League Baseball named names - lots of them - and one was as expected, Jose Canseco. He admits to using anabolic steroids and human growth hormone to improve his performance while playing ball. He also claims with great believability to have assisted many other top players in becoming steroid using sluggers - including Mark McGwire.
So what? Every professional sports league on the planet is rife with steroid use. People respond to incentives and the salaries and status available to these athletes is 100’s of times greater if they succeed in the Pro’s than if they fail. When you put people into a highly competitive game they will use every available means to win that does not break the REAL rules. Since the professional sports leagues did/do little if any drug testing on their athletes, the REAL rules said/say "go ahead, juice up, hit more homers, run faster, jump higher, etc., etc." The players are the last people to blame. The league owners and administrators knew everthing that was going on (look at Jose in the photo - does he look more like a Babe Ruth or an Arnold Schwarzenegger) but preferred to allow the steroid use so as to obtain a higher level of performance and more broken records.
And again, so what? Steroids, if used intelligently and under proper supervision, do improve human performance, just as proper training and nutrition do. So what’s the big deal? Open things up - let us humans make our own choices - don’t criminalize the use of performance enhancing substances like steroids, legalize them and regulate them. Get them out of the locker rooms at gyms and into the pharmacies so people who choose to optimize their physiques and fitness can do so safely and intelligently and legally.
